Top 10 Reasons to Work from Home

When I first started working from home, it was more out of necessity than choice. I had a new baby and needed to earn an income -- and I hated the thought of putting my child into day care so I could return to the office, even on a part time basis. Once I took the plunge and started my business, I wished I'd made the move years ago! It was more lucrative than working full time, even with a baby to care for. There are so many benefits to working from home:1. No office politics or pesky work mates
There's no time or opportunity to get caught up in the never ending dramas of your colleagues, which can easily drag you down and create a negative work environment. At home, it's just you and whoever you choose to liaise with. 2. No meetings
Imagine the work you could get done if there were no time consuming meetings to attend every day -- at home there are no agendas, no minutes, and no action items that never get actioned.3. Huge tax breaks
When you work from home there are all sorts of tax benefits including being able to claim for portions of things like vehicle use, rent, electricity, gas, telephone and technology (check with your tax advisor for a full list and advice).4. Your work, your schedule
When you work for yourself you decide what projects to work on and when. Feel like getting up before dawn and then sleeping mid afternoon? -- no problem! When you work is entirely up to you.5. Every day is casual dress Friday
You get to relax and wear whatever you feel comfortable in. You can save thousands of dollars by working from home and not having to keep up a 5-day a week office wardrobe. You'll need a few professional outfits for important client meetings, but there's not the every day dilemma of what to wear (we like yoga pants and t-shirts!). 6. It's cheaper
Working from home means minimal transport costs; less petrol (if you normally drive); less childcare costs; no daily take away coffee; no lunch from the local café; no staff gifts for birthdays, leaving, babies etc; no staff get togethers each week; no office clothes dry cleaning bills -- the list goes on and on.7. You're raising your children your way
Child care is a great resource for busy parents, but work-from-home mums have the benefit of truly being a part of raising our children our way. Why miss out on one more precious moment? 8. It's your environment
Feel like hanging a floor to ceiling portrait of your family on your home office wall? No problem. Cubicles and open plan offices can suffocate your creativity, while other people's hygiene habits, phone calls, lunch order odours etc can drive you crazy. How about a scented candle, some relaxing music and a view over the garden? 9. No boss
You are only accountable to yourself. If you decide to take action to generate more work, it's up to you. Similarly, you can decide to take things easier or earn less. It's time to give up making lots of money for someone else, and start applying your unique skills to creating the life of your dreams. 10. Create your own life
Work from home and you can set your own goals, work at your own pace, and create time for your children, spouse and friends. Feel like taking the afternoon off for a lunch with the girls?
